How to Start an Intent to File (ITF)

Why? This locks in your back pay date for 12 months.

Method 1: Online (Recommended)

  1. Log in to VA.gov.
  2. Go to "File a claim for compensation".
  3. Click "Start the disability compensation application".
  4. Fill out your personal info and hit **SAVE**. You do NOT need to submit it yet.
